South Beach Studios Chooses Solid State Logic Matrix Console with XLogic X-Rack for Studio B

Matrix Delivers Big Console Sound, Flexibility and DAW Control in Small Footprint

November 05, 2009 -- DMN Newswire--2009-11-5--South Beach Studios, long the home base for superstar mix engineer Tom Lord Alge, recently expanded their horizons by rebuilding Studio B around a Solid State Logic Matrix console supported by an SSL XLogic X-Rack. Intended to be a working base for Grammy Award-winning engineer Andrew Coleman, Matrix delivers the coveted SSL SuperAnalogue(tm) sound in a small footprint package, while providing deft simultaneous control of up to four DAW's and an advanced signal routing structure that accommodates up to 40 line-level channels.

"When we looked at the needs of Studio B, our smaller room, Matrix became the obvious choice for our mission," says Joe Galdo, co-founder of South Beach Studios. "I spoke with Anthony Fernandez who is working on a new touring bus for Timbaland and he told me about the flexibility of being able to control DAW programs such as Digital Performer and Logic from Matrix and make the change over in seconds. This feature was extremely appealing to us as many different engineers and artists we work with routinely use a wide range of software platforms. We built the Matrix room for engineers like Coleman, who has worked extensively at South Beach Studios, so we really needed the flexibility."

Coleman has a long standing relationship with Pharrell and Chad Hugo of The Neptunes and N.E.R.D and he has partnered with mainstream artists such as Timbaland, Gwen Stefani, Missy Elliot, Mariah Carey, Madonna and Justin Timberlake. As Studio B has been frequented by some of the world's greatest engineers and artists, including Coleman, not just any console would do for the studio.

"We have had a long, positive relationship with SSL through our experience with the 4000 G Series Tom Lord Alge uses in Studio A," relates Galdo. "SSL produces great sounding consoles that stand the test of time both for their sonic qualities and for reliability. The X-Rack supplies us with input options found on the SSL Duality. The name recognition alone makes artists on all levels want to use the studio. We could not be happier with Matrix as it fits perfectly the space and mission of Studio B."
